Good News Wrapped in Bad News Wrapped in Good News

THIS is a babe!!!
The good news: earlier this week at work I got word that someone who came in described me as "a babe." Awesome sauce. The bad news: this person is sans Y chromosome. Can't win them all I suppose. The good news: the person who relayed this message to me was a quite handsome male co-worker...who bats for my team. Maybe he was thinking what she was thinking. *mind racing with possibilities*

Since I just started there, I'm still trying to get the feel of my co-workers: who is trustworthy, who are the gossips, who are the assholes, yadda yadda yadda. It's weird how I see "a game of thrones" gets played out in life all the time. That story has permeated my consciousness in a way that few stories have. Even office politics sometimes looks like the great houses of Westeros jockeying for power. Of course it's me who is the one trying to figure out who the players are and what role they're in.

Other than adjusting to the pace, everything seems to be going well thus far. I'm making more money right now as a trainee than I was making at my last job which is nice especially given A) how much of my savings account I burned through and B) how much I'm trying to save for next Summer (thousands). It's going to be a busy week too. Some sort of a financial plan is coming together. I'll be talking to my bank some time this week. Hopefully things stay on this heading.

An Awkward Question

Yet again I'm having trouble sleeping. Here is what's on my mind this time:

There is this guy I used to work with who we'll leave nameless here. He is a pretty awesome guy that I've known for a year or two. We usually had fun together on the job. We tapped into each other's goofiness, sexual innuendo passed between us constantly (more so than it did between me and almost anyone else...it's kinda my schtick), etc. Some people that worked with us thought he may be gay (someone actually asked him outright in front of several other coworkers, at which I was initially stunned, then walked away trying unsuccessfully not to laugh hysterically). For the most part, I didn't think about it because I didn't care for most of the time we worked together.

I have quite a bit of free time on my hands, more so than any person should. As a result of this, my mind tends to wander wildly. One of the things that I have pondered - given the apparent question as to this guy's sexuality combined with my nagging solitude - was this: had he actually been attracted to men in general, was he attracted to me and would a relationship between us work? As to the relationship question, probably not because this would mean he was in the closet. All of the anecdotal evidence points to relationships where one person is in and the other is out being very strained because of divergent interests. There are also some other reasons it may not have worked in the long-run, but we need not go there. Even given that, I have taken the position that if the opportunity arose, I'd just go for it. Better to try and fail than not try and wonder "what if" in situations like this.

This whole thing has nagged me sporadically over the past several months. I think were I to see him face to face again (which seems unlikely at this point and this doesn't really seem like an internet/texting question) I would be hard-pressed to resist asking a very awkward question: did we ever have a shot (and I'd have to emphasis an honest and confidential answer...I'm great with secrets)? If we did, then it's out there and at least we both are on the same page. If we didn't and it's all in my head (which seems BY FAR the more likely scenario), I'm 100% okay with that. No harm, no foul...at least on my part. Either way, I feel the need for an honest answer to put my mind at rest.

Men...why do they always do this to me? Bastards...

Shag, Marry, Stake: The Vampire Diaries

This is from one of my favourite shows, "The Vampire Diaries." Love, love, love this show (which recently started its fourth season and is still going strong in terms of ratings and overall awesomeness).

Apparently, everyone would shag Matt...as would I. P.S. This is Matt (on the left):

Tribute to Team USA Men's Gymnastics

Me being the Tolkien nerd/band geek that I am, the first thing I notice is how that first piece of music is from "The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring" (right after Gandalf's fall).

Back to the subject at hand, DROOL!!! Jake Dalton is super-hot, which is why he won the "King of the Hardwood" tournament this year.

A Reading Problem

There is this guy with whom I've worked for quite a while. Recently, I've developed something of a crush on him, but I think this may mainly be because he may or may not be interested in me. I'm not sure and I'm having a rather hard time reading the situation. I'm in a strange position of feeling like if this went nowhere, it wouldn't be a big deal while at the same time, if given the opportunity, I would like to see where this goes.

It seems like that opportunity may have just presented itself. We were working together tonight and he asked me if I wanted to go to his birthday party, which is at his hometown (an hour and a half away) in mid-July. Seriously, I froze for a few seconds when he asked me...before saying sure (gotta sound nonchalant after all). Honestly, I have no idea what to make of this. I'm completely flying blind. I'm just hoping I don't pull a Hindenberg (i.e. crashing and burning).

I forgot to mention that we'll be at work essentially alone together for an hour and a half tomorrow morning (unless it gets busy).

Locked Out Hottie

He looked something like this.
I was coming home from the grocery store yesterday. As I was coming up the sidewalk, there was this guy just standing there looking in my direction. I was a little put off and confused because this was someone I had never met before. He kept looking at me as  I was walking towards him for what seemed like an uncomfortably long time. When I got within speaking range of him, he sort of flagged me down and asked if I had an old credit card or something like that because he was apparently locked out of his apartment. I said sure, just give me a sec to drop my stuff off (I lived a few doors down).

Did I mention this guy was hot? Yeah, he was hot. He had been at the river with some people and there was some miscommunication which ended up with him being locked out. He was also not wearing a shirt. Definitely a fine male specimen: cute, cut, and made me feel bad about the fattening food I was about to eat. He also seemed nice, if you're into that sort of thing.

Where was I? Oh, yes. So I dropped my stuff off and came back out to help him get into his place. We walked up to his door and I handed him my old debit card that I've been to lazy to cut up and throw away for the past few months (I'm such a procrastinator). He got into his place and then turned around and introduced himself.

I know what you're thinking, this sounds like the beginning of some thousands of porn flicks. Yeah, I would agree. Sadly, it didn't and like any of them. I WILL have to be on the lookout for this guy...just in case ;)

How To Be a Manly Man

King of the Hardwood 2012

This year's competition just wrapped up and yet again, the championship match was tight. When I say tight, I'm talking about a match that was 50.4% to 49.6%. It came down to last year's champion Eric Decker (who plays American football with the Denver Broncos) and Jacob "Jake" Dalton (an American gymnast). Personally I voted for Eric Decker (of whom I have many pictures on this blog, just search the football tag at the bottom). However, Dalton took the championship. I'm definitely not complaining though. A big congratulations to Jake.

If you want to see how the rest of the tournament shook out, you can find the website HERE.

I haven't really written a actual post lately (except the one on Sunday). Mostly, laziness. That and I actually put more into my political blog (though I need to write more there too). Anyway, I still somehow managed to make it to 200. Since it's also near the end of the year, I guess a year in review is in order.

I remember thinking at the end of 2010 "good riddance." That year was fraught with heartache and general unpleasantness. I glad to see that year go and another one begin. So what am I thinking at the end of 2011? Meh. That's pretty much it, and that's the optimistic look back at the year. There were almost no substantive changes in my life this year besides making a foray into the world of blogging. Other than that, this year was full of inertia.

This has been getting to me, especially in the last few weeks. Things could definitely be worse: health failure, losing my job, all that kind of stuff. Looking at the big picture, I have it okay (especially given the hard times this country is in). Having said that, I have gotten to the point where I need to make a change, and a big one, and relatively soon. The job that I have is something that I dread going to even though it pays the bills. The only thing that keeps me sane there is some of the people that work there, but that doesn't help as much as it used to. I need to do something where I feel like I'm actually accomplishing something or helping someone. That is what I always wanted to do and, somewhere along the way, I lost that.

There is also the loneliness factor. Generally during the day I can keep my head above water. I can find something to occupy my time (this is another reason I can put up with my job: it kills a few hours). At night however, when the lights are down, the computer is off, and all I have are my thoughts, that's when it gets bad.

So here is the hope for 2012: that this is the year I start accomplishing some goals. It's time to move on (well, it's waaaaay past time). This will be the year I start making a difference. This is the time I can put what knowledge I have to use. This is the year that everything changes, and hopefully for the better.

So this post, which should have been celebratory was pretty much a downer. I would much rather end on a high note:

You're Welcome.
